How Do I (Or My Students) Know If They’re Learning?

Levels of Understanding

Man, summer goes by fast, doesn’t it? It’s already time to start thinking about how you’re going to organize your classroom and year, and how you’re going to set up your room. What to change and what to keep?

One thing I’d recommend trying (or continuing to use) this year are Levels of Understanding. As a teacher who tries to infuse Marzano’s principles about teaching into nearly everything I do, a focus on levels of understanding have become invaluable to me.

At the beginning of each lesson, I have my students use a 0-4 scale to rate where they are in relation to our learning target. At the end of class, I have them re-evaluate themselves to identify where they are and what they need to do to attain or maintain mastery.

I am providing the classroom posters I use for this FREE and only here at my blog! CLICK HERE for your copy to print and post.
